Matt and bryan m , Go back to Saabskool ! b-motor waterpump is found in cars with the 'b' engine, 99's and 900's thru 1980. Waterpump is in the engine block behind the alternator. chrisb, My experience has been that rebuilding the leaky pump, new seals and bearing, usually results in a still leaking pump. I did my first two pumps using two stanley wonder bars, sparkplugs out, car in gear and gently pry up while turning engine to ease gear disengage. I don't remember which direction. I now have the proper Saab tool and I work very slowly, gently, and hold my breath. Recently have become aware of failure of new waterpumps due to what seems to be poor quality, and failure of gears after install of new pump by experienced tech, maybe poor quality again. So I recommend trying to find best quality, maybe true Saab, and if you try it be verrrry gentle. Theories on other failures have touched on : new pump w/ new gear installed to mate w/gear with 232k- bound to have meshing stresses ? Anyone who knows of source of pumps and any note on quality please post.
