More on my 1990 SPG in the process of being rehabbed:
1) Seem to have a steering issue: leaking PS fluid, wheel tends to "give" (turn quickly) after one or two revolutions in either direction, sort of sickly "squishing" sound/sensation as I turn the wheel. I've seen rebuilt steering systems with stainless steel. Does anyone think these are worth getting?
2) Sometimes when I hit hard bumps (in construction zones, where they like to leave those 1.5 inch ridges in the pavement) the Anti-Lock light will be illuminated. Sometimes it goes right off, sometimes the car needs to be restarted and then it goes away. Any ideas?
3) Annoying check engine light. Had a number of hoses redone, fixed a vacuum leak, still comes on. Tends to come on for long periods of time and then stay off for long periods of time.
4) Going back to that annoying construction zone pavement from #1, would replacing or upgrading springs/shocks mitigate the sickening THUD when I fly across one of those that I don't see?
5) Oil recommendations. Regular or synthetic? Weight? Brand? I live in Massachusetts and this baby will be out on the road this winter, stuck in traffic, et cetera.
6) General upgrades/improvements to prolong the life of the car and improve performance. What are some things that people have done to avoid costly repairs?
