Will the harmonic balancer affect the oil pump? Yes and no.
The oil pump is bolted to the timing chain cover, and has the crankshaft running right through the middle of it. The oil pump is right behind the harmonic balancer (HB). If the HB separates, one part of it can back into the oil pump and start cutting into the cover. Eventually it can chew through the cover and you'll lose your oil.
Unless you have a big puddle on the ground, I doubt this is what happened to you. I'll bet you say you don't have oil pressure because the oil pressure light is on. Now, the oil pressure switch is on the bracket that holds the oil filter. The switch has a wire running to it. First, make sure the wire is connected to the switch, and hasn't fallen off (or not been reconnected), and is resting on the metal of the engine or chassis. The oil pressure switch is electrically closed to ground at low oil pressure. Touch that wire to ground, and the light will be on. Second, it's possible that all this banging around damaged the oil pressure switch, and it isn't closing properly.
If you did run the engine, did the valves clatter a lot? If you've got an oil pressure light on, but the valves are quiet, chances are good it's the switch. Do a visual of the area where you were working, and I'll bet that will fix your problem. If not, then buy or borrow an oil pressure gauge, and stick it in where the oil pressure switch goes. Chances are your oil pressure is fine, but the downside of being wrong is a new engine. If the pressure checks out fine, replace the switch.
Good luck!
