Here is why:
1. the "pop" I heard may have been my trans popping out of gear upon the engine shutting down. (I have two bad motor mounts which cause the trans to pop out of gear upon dropping the throttle)
2. The wire in the AMM does not light up when the ignition is on, although the check engine light does not come on.
3. The intercooler is intact.
Now that trhe weather has cleared up, I'm going to check for spark. If there is spark, I'll check the fuel system. I will also, even though I am loath to do so, see if the distributor turns when the engine is cranked.
I will post with follow up.
Thanks for all of your assistance.
J Hammer
