When the car stalls, and you try and restart it, look at the tachometer. Is the tach needle bouncing as the engine cranks? If it is, then the ignition system is probably OK. No bounce, keep after the ignition. Does the car really have points in the distributor? Unless you have a European market carbureted version, I'm pretty sure Saab went to electronic ignition in the early 80's.
If you do have electronic ignition, and the tach needle isn't bouncing, check the hall effect sensor in the distributor.
OK, suppose the tach needle does bounce? Now what? Try putting in a jumper between fuses 27 and 30. This will energize the fuel pump, even with the ignition off. If this makes the car start, then I would suspect the fuel pump relay, or the logic that drives it. The fuel pump only runs if the engine is turning, and if that signal isn't getting to the fuel pump relay properly, you're essentially running out of gas. It may also just be a weak fuel pump relay or weak fuel pump. With those jumper in place, you should hear the fuel pump run.
Good luck!
