ie, if my timing chain jumped a tooth, are my valves toast? Is there a way to tell if the valves are toast?
You may remember me from such posts as "88t ent pop, stall, died." It still has not started. I have fuel (checked at the rail), air (all systems go) and spark at the plugs. I have checked for spark at the plugs, made sure distributor turns, checked voltage at the injectors while cranking, and performed all of the Bently electrical tests, except for the AMM and Hall generator output signal (it gets power) tests. Still no start. I did not test AMM because I figured, perhaps errouniously, that if the AMM failed, the check engine light would be on). I did not test Hall output because I figured, agaion perhaps erroniously, that if the Hall did not work, I would have no spark.
That leads me to the sad conclusion that the timing is somehow off, perhaps the chain jumped a tooth.
Could the vac advance have thrown the timing off, perhaps leaving it way off so that it will not start?
Any input would be greatly appreciated.
J Hammer
