I bought my '85 900T with bad brakes, thats how come I paid $400 for it. Now, the piston must be rotated to reset it and you need a special tool or have to fudge it. My solution, since my calipers were probably toast anyway, was to get new LOADED calipers. These come with new pads and all new brake hardware already installed. No messing with the rusty U bolt or anything like that. Remove old caliper, install new caliper, bleed and you are done. I also replaced both rotors and brake hoses. Always replace brake hoses when you do calipers unless your hoses are relatively new. If in doubt, replace. However, I recall my calipers being really expensive. The core charge alone was $75 each. I can't remember what the calipers themselves cost. It cost me about $375 for both loaded calipers, rotors, hoses, and a new muffler. That is after getting back my $150 core charge.
This approach saves mucho labor. I think it's the way to go. Good luck and happy holidays,
Frank
