I recently experianced a very similar condition on my 87' 900s. On mine, it was the hydraulic line, from the master cylinder to the slave. The metal part was fine, it was the short rubber piece near the slave that had failed. I would check for fluid along the line.
The other place you may want to check, is the master cylinder itself, look for leaks on the fire wall, as well as in the foot well.
The last thing I would check, would be the slave cylinder, since it was replaced recently, I wouldn't think that would be it... but you never know...
Good Luck
