As PV's post suggests, it is almost definitely your motor. Getting it out involves removing the entire upper dash. Not actually difficult, just very long. Once you get it out, don't put it back in unless you are sure it is in sound condition, and will last a couple of years. Otherwise, buy a good used one, or a new one. This is a job you don't want to have to do again in a couple of months.
