I'd tend to concur that it isn't inherent... My '80 900T still has its original b-motor intact at somewhere around 200k. At around 182k I had the head off to replace the headgasket (blew at #4) and there was no evidence one valve was in worse shape than any of the others. It's possible that a previous owner replaced some/all of them at some point, but my *guess* is that the head had never been off prior - it looked like the original head gasket.
I've never heard of this problem, especially with the sodium-filled valves on the Turbo. Perhaps there is something else amiss? What type of plugs do you run, and what about gas?
