Because I want this car for a while longer, I got crazy on the rust. You're refering to rust along the bottom door sill, correct?
One, carefully examine the door sill, BOTH the exterior lip and the interior side hiding under the flat rubber seal. If you see any rust, attack it now (remove seal, grind it out w/ Dremel, seal it w/ POR15, and paint it any vaguely matching color, replace seal).
Two, remove the door interior panel (it becomes self explanatory: remove all fasteners and it pops off). Clean out the "floor" of the door, clear out the drains (wire), degrease, and slather the inside w/ POR15.
Done. If you got it all it should never rust in it's service life. If you have any Q on how the seal's reattach/fasters, post again.
P.S. POR15 permanently seals out rust on bare metal surfaces. It is equally effective on thin surface rust if it is brushed first (ie no loose rust). Little pricey, but amazing stuff.
