Dave's pointing you in the right direction. I had the same problem in my old '86T.
The rubber diaphragm inside the overboost fuel cutoff switch can deteriorate and spring leaks. It can be bypassed, but if you do that, you are removing an important safety mechanism.
I would try to find a junkyard replacement. I think the dealer wants obscene $$$ for that part. Of course, that is a small fraction of the cost of replacing a motor destroyed by uncontrolled boost.
