or convert to a five speed (next time I will, I rebuilt the auto on my 87 900T). But the base 900 is a slug and IMHO fit only for basic transportation or child/teenager first car.
The <88 brakes often have problems with aftermarket front calipers, I agree. So rebuild your own front calipers...it's not that hard and the seal kits are available from the dealer. Once you take apart the ebrake mechanism you'll understand the relatively simple maintenance requirements that aren't clearly spelled out by Saab. They seize because no one cleans out the area between the shaft and the caliper casting and that's generally where they hang up. At least that's what I see when I take them off and pull them apart. Brake clunk is a design problem...they wear out and clearance between yoke and cylinder gets excessive and they clunk when going into reverse. The townsend solution isn't long term.
