Is it a case that the idle becomes rough when the car is warm, but OK when cold? Is the idle low, or is the idle the right speed, but 'lumpy'? Does it matter how cold it is outside? Done a tuneup recently, or checked the spark plug gaps?
As always, especially with idle problems, look for vacuum leaks. Check all the hoses for cracks and breaks. See if the hooter valve diaphram is OK. Give the Idle Motor a whack or two, or at least clean it out with some carb cleaner, and see if that helps.
Just like a programmer. The screen is blank, so you blame the processor, when it just might be that somebody kicked the cord out.
