Quite the conundrum, isn't it? I've found myself there more than once...
There are alternatives:
1. Borrow the giant pressure plate jack from a mechanic. It's a big, long, lever-looking tool that you can use to compress the pressure plate fingers sans hydraulics. You can then pull the clutch out and separate as normal.
2. Patiently pry each finger back and stick something in place to keep it compressed, then separate as normal. I usually unbolt the pressure plate from the flywheel, then pry the plate against the flywheel, forcing the fingers to compress. It does work, however it's difficult and time consuming, and generally requires two people.
3. Get a Dremel or other small cutter and cut the pressure plate fingers off. I usually prefer to cut it since it's cheaper to replace than a slave cylinder. However, on an older car you never know the condition of the hydraulics, so....
Fun, isn't it?
