I decided to upgrade my stero on my 88 900T and made the decision to go with 6x9s. I bought the necessary adapters at Circuit City. They were kind of pricy at $25 but they were the only people in the area that had them in stock. The ones I purchased are made by Metra (GM universial adaptor, part number 82-4000) and are a bright blue. They came with a couple of hangers that I guess are necessary to install them in GM vehicles but are usless in our saabs. The speakers are on an angle on the apapters and the adapters mount flat on the speaker opening. The end result being that the 6x9's end up at about a 30 degree angle. To install the speakers it was necessary to remove the fabric that covers the speaker holes and peel back the marerial the covers the c-pillars.The first thing I did was to use my dremel to cut into the sheet metal to open up the speaker openings to a true 4x10 opening. I then used the supplied hardware to attach the adapters to the speakers on one side. Since the speakers mount at an angle to the adapters I had to use a pair of about 3 inch long bolts on the side closest to the outside of the car. Also since these were ment to be used with the hangers to help support them but were usless in this application I took a couple of short screws and used those to hold the hole assembly down tight. It took me a few hours of work but in the end it was totally worth it. The 6x9's fit nicely and take up virtually no cargo space. I was considering mounting them in the cargo shelf after hearing negative comments about fitting 6x9's with adapters in the stock location but I am much more pleased with things this way. I wasn't fond of the idea of having to deal with the speakers installed in the cargo shelf everytime I have to haul stuff around. At the same time I installed an amp (MTX Blue Thunder 150x2, the speakers are Rockford Fosgate HPC's) under the rear seat to power them. The new set up sounds awesome and I got deals on everything so the whole set up cost me $220 bucks. The only negative about the whole project was that I don't have a garage so I had to do all the work in middle of winter in the cold. Oh well. I hope someone finds this helpful.
