Well that would explain the oil leak.

I have this newly acquired ‘83 900 turbo. 200K miles of unknown history and this terrible oil leak I notice that it has an air conditioning compressor with a pully for two belts but there is only one belt grove on the crank pulley..
This oil leak is mostly from the area of the crank pulley but there is also some from the clutch end and the turbo. Since there are several leaks, I pull the engine in order to, as Claud Rains says in Casablanca, “Round up all the usual suspects”.
I pull the crank pulley and the oil pump and decide to check the condition of the crankshaft oil seal. That’s when I find out the seal is gone. Not gone as in the pinion bearings are worn out and “gone”. I mean gone like your car keys are gone. Like in "They arent’t where they are supposed to be and you don’t know where they are". That kind of gone.
Looks like the last person to work on this old girl replaced the pulley but didn’t even put in a seal. That would explain the oil leak, wouldn’t it?.
Reminds me of a positing I saw here in the last month or so.
A high milage Saab is like a high tone woman. She gives you lots of pleasure, but you never know what she will throw at you next.
