Central Locking Problems

Over the past month the central locking system on my 1991 900S has developed a mind of it's own, and it's sanity is questionable. At first the doors would (un)lock randomly while driving or the passenger side would not (un)lock with the drivers side. Now it has gotten to the point that when I leave work in the evening or the house in the morning the passenger door and trunk will be unlocked.
I have searched the archives and it looks like their are two possible culprits, the switch located in the drivers side door or the controlling relay. From your experience, which is more likely?
To access the switch in the door, is all that is involved removing the door trim and moisture barrier? Any tricks to make it easier? Just inspect the unit and hit it with some electronics contact cleaner if it appears in good order?
The relay is reportedly "on the passenger side behind the instrument panel" (paraphrased). I haven't been able to lacate its exact whereabouts in the Bently Manual or the part number. Any direction here would be appreciated.
TIA,
jay
