My GF currently has an 85 900s 8v with an automatic that is getting close to going out. Work just brought in an 85 900 turbo 16v with only about 8k more miles on it
My GF is very attached to her "first car", and we bought it from a second owner (first owner was his aunt) and we have every scrap of paperwork that went with it, including almost every oil change. The body is near perfect (great for MN, it came from NY) but the seats are worn, the dash is cracked, and the headliner sags and has a large tear in it.
The "new" car is a turbo 16v (most important) and we wanted to swap a manual into her old one, but it may just be better to take the new car. The problems are that there are spots of body rust on portions that cannot be swapped across from the old car (ie, bottom of wheel arches, etc.) Doors and hood can be swapped no problem. The dash is uncracked, the headliner is near perfect, seats are not worn, lights work well, etc.
Cost of this new car- $1000 firm, because they can get the same price from a junkman if they wholesale it. It has 136k on it, and as far as we can tell from the paperwork, has never had a turbo rebuild. It is a single owner, and we have his number. It has always been in this area of MN.
I am just looking for opinions on this deal, or for any problems anyone can tell me to look out for. If we do this, we will be swapping parts across and then there will be an 85 8v with automatic up for sale.
