Hi Caleb,

I bought a 90 900 Turbo in October for $4,000 with 156K on it. All the same options. When I was asking for advice, one of the things I was told to check for on the trannie was to put it in reverse and try to back up a hill with a good pitch. If the car pops out of gear, you have potential problems. I'm not sure what the cost to replace is, but I think when I was asking it was about $1,200 parts and labor, for a rebuilt. I also found that red was the worst color, every one I looked at had rot around the plastic mouldings. I was told it had something to do with the paint itself. Check the steering too, the steering boxes tend to go as well, if it's stiff it could be a problem. The other thing I was consistently told was to try to get a car with all the service documents. I was lucky, I bought mine on consignment from the mechanic who sold and serviced the car I bought.

The car has 164K on it now and the only thing I have put into it so far is the heater control valve, (the temp selector dial won't move to the extreme in both directions), that cost me $140.00 parts and labor, but I am told it can cost up to $220.00 parts and labor.

I love my Saab, but going into it I knew it would be expensive to repair, but not any worse than my wife's Subaru. I was originally looking at the "S" model, but then drove a turbo and wouldn't consider one without it. The performance was so much better. Sounds like a good deal, but have it checked by a reputable Saab mechanic. They know all the quirks to look for. Good luck and happy motoring!

Sean
