Starter problems

I think my starter solenoid is crapping out on me.
symtoms
-- turn the key and i hear the start spin (bzzzzzzzzzzzzzz) and then some times it catches and starts.
This just started yesterday evening. I was wondering if there is some
way to remidy this with out a new solenoid or ... maby a new starter.
Any sugestions are welcome on what to do to fix it or if my analysis is corect.
it is an 89 900 t
any help wold be great
