Sorry to say- "yup" I've bought more fogs than i would like to admit, but most 'crashes' were mine own fault. If you live up north (w/ snow banks)- better to just remove or relocate.

I've decided to tackle the silver srtip issue- head on! I remove the faded plastic (extra caution here) and toss the metal retain clips; wash and then lightly sand the plastic; prep for paint and choose a color. I opted for semi-black, matches well with other trim on the car. Add 3-4 coats and then a bunch of wax. I reattach with 3M auto tape (run the entire length of strip)- easier than those clips and STAYS on- even after a minor crash. 6K miles later and the paint still looks great- no chips from road debris either- I think it looks good and even my very opinionated wife likes it.
