Just reading and re-iterating what Tom has found and published on his web page. He has seen more of these than I have. It is good enough for me to follow his advice. I have it in 2 1992 900T's. The only thing I have noticed is that they both shift a bit notchier when cold (Ohio Winter cold). After 5 minutes, they are fine. The way I see it is: If the failure mode of these gearboxes is pinion bearing disintegration and not gear wear, it would be better to use a lube which excels at this sort of protection. Redline is for protecting race gears which are shocked when engaged as far as I know about this product (race 'boxes do not have synchros). From what Tom says, once this is done (switching to gear lube), it is done, meaning that you cannot go back to engine oil without a serious flush with solvent at a minimum or a disassembly and clean. To summarize what he says: If it has engine oil in it, replace with AMSoil Series 2000 20W50 at 30-35kmi interval changes. If it has gear lube in it now you are hosed and you would have to ask him what he suggests. I have one which had GL in it when I got it. I performed a change to Mobil 1 GL when I serviced it. It shifts fine and has 184kmi on it ('89 NA).
