Thanks to the people who responded kindly to my question about my recent purchase of a 1990 SPG. Just though I would relay my recent experience with the purchase and coming back to a Saab after a short absence.
I used to own a 1985 SPG which had been thrashed pretty badly. I enjoyed working on it, but the wiring shortcomings and concerns about the tranny caused me to sell it after a year. I bought a 4wd truck(I live in Colorado), but really missed the Saab. I then bought a 1983 900T which served me faithfully for over two years. I loved the power and for road trips, it could not be beat. However, I decided to replace it with a 1984 BMW 528e in pristine condition. While I like the BMW...it handles and rides better than anything I've owned, it just lacked personality, even compared to my '83 T. Sooooo...I had my eye on a 1990 SPG that I had sseen constantly around town for the last year or so(small town). When it came up for sale, I snatched it up. I can't wait to start driving the SPG in the mountain passes around my town...something I never really looked forward to with the BMW.
One last observation about BMW v. Saab...The cult Saab following is so much stronger than BMW that it helps owning one immensly. This board is a great example. Even in this small town, I hooked up with a great mechanic who happens to have about 20 junked Saabs for parts. Luckily he has given me great deals on parts(the little stuff that just kills you to order)which I hope will continue. No one in this town drives BMW's and parts are a nightmare.
1990 SPG...yes!
