I may be one of the few Saab owners who actually wants this light to work (not so much because I feel like I need an electromechanical device to tell me when to shift, but because I like for things to work).
Thus, I find myself trying to determine the reason that the light is inop. I know the following:
-the fuse is good
-the bulb is good
-when I turn the car on, it briefly flashes
-when the car is warmed up, it briefly flashes
-the connectors that are right by the intake manifold, near the fuel rail are connected (they hadn't been and the light did nothing until the connector was put back)
All of this tells me that the temp. sensor is working that prevents it from working when the car is too cold, but I don't know where else to look.
Any thoughts... Please no advice on indicating that I should not care. I may well disconnect once I've got it working, but I want to see it in operation for a while before I make such a determination.
BTW, for those of you in MD/DC, I had occasion to spend part of last Saturday with some of the guys who post here at an impromptu meeting of a new faction of the local Saab club at Viking Automotive. I have gone to Scandinavian Imports in Rockville, as well as Town Center Saab in Herndon and though both are great shops, this one should be on your radar screen as a place to take your Saab. Both of the owners Eric Heyse and Jay (don't know his last name)are knowledgable Saab mechanics and are intimately familiar with the cars (and both happen to be nice guys). On top of all that, there labor rate is a heckuva lot lower than most repair shops. I have no particular reason for cheerleading for them, other than when I was at their shop, they both took the time to talk with me about my car and I saw their genuine interest in providing quality service.
Anyway, please provide any input you can re: the up shift light!
Thanks.
