Done all I can do... Posted by Rob [Email] (#1828) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Rob) on Sat, 24 Feb 2001 18:01:21 In Reply to: Re: yes...., Mark J, Sat, 24 Feb 2001 13:19:43 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I played around with the cable, and I can't get it to do much of anything - No matter how the "crimp" is adjusted. The problem is that the cable just will not go back into the plastic sheath (towards the transmission) without help. That explains why it takes so long to upshift. You really have to press the throttle down to take up all that slack in the cable. I made so many adjustments to the cable that I am sure it will be way out of whack if I did get the slack to go back towards the transmission.
At first I was afraid it must be on the other end of the cable - that is, whatever pulls it back towards the transmission. Now, I just think the whole cable is shot. For one thing, when I pull it towards the throttle as far as it goes (creating all that slack) - I can see damage to the cable - a metal thread or two of the braid is torn right where it comes out of the sheath. I think that is also keeping it from sliding freely within the sheath. Also, I noticed on the end that goes into the transmission housing that the nut that holds it on is loose. I had no tool that I could tighten the thing in the tight location that it is. I gave up frustrated. Guess I'll just take it into the shop.
I think if they replace the cable, then all will be well - what do you think?
Thanks,
Rob
