Just cut the wires off the old sensor (at the sensor) on the car, remove the 02 sensor (worst part of the job...prob have to pull the battery or use long extension from under car, I had to remove the elbow from my turbo and put in bench vise), bring the wiring harness up into the light and splice the new sensor into the old harness. The new sensor has about 6-8" of new wiring on it and conductor length won't make any electronic difference (although you might want to check exhaust clearance, etc. for the stock wiring; if the longer wires are going to make a difference, adjust accordingly) and you'll be close enough if you take a couple inches off the harness to get fresh conductor.
My recce is to use the butt crimp connectors that come with the generic 3-wire 02 sensor AND solder them. Shrink tubing is fine, just remember to put the tubing on the wires and harness BEFORE you butt/crimp/solder :>)
