A couple things to check:
1) Cap off hooter valve as Justin said and see if any change
2) Pull of vacuum line to charcoal canister and cap off. These have a one way valve that can cause trouble when they go bad.
3) The fact that the idle fluctuates from time to time makes me think you have a vacuum leak somewhere. Did you inspect all the intake pipes? The one that runs from the AMM to the turbo is made out of injection molded plastic which has two seams on either side. On my car, the seams had cracked open and were letting all kinds of air get sucked in after the AMM. Sealing these up with silicone sealant helped a lot. After you check that, remember that vacuum lines aren't the end all to vacuum problems, there are many little things you may be over looking, i.e., how is the grommet around the PCV elbow on top of the valve cover? how are the grommets on the plastice intake pipe that the PCV hose and other vacuum hoses connect to? how is the grommet on the intake manifold that the brake power booster hose connects to? How do you know if there is a good seal where the rubber hose connects to the power booster? Have you inspected the rubber bellows that connect the intake pipes to the turbo? Are you absolutely positive that the clamps that hold the hooter valve to those same rubber bellows are tight (you can't tell by looking at them, go to the store, by new clamps, and tighten them down - if you have the old plastic clamps, you definitely have a leak there).
As you can see, I've been through this before, and I think you have a lot of things to check before you take it to the dealer. Buy all new grommets, and while your at it go crazy with the silicone sealant. Make sure everythings is sealed up 100%.
Unfortunately, this is a chronic problem with my car, and after all this work I still had a problem. Certainly, sealing up everything help A LOT, but in the end I still had to replace the AIC valve. If after making sure you have no vacuum leaks and the timing and idle are set correctly, you too might want to just replace your AIC. I think it will still be cheaper than taking the car into the dealer.
Good Luck,
Greg
