to the ignition control unit are at the side of the distributor (US Driver's side) and are in a shielded cable. The cable runs from the distributor across and below the cluch cover/engine to the driver's side fender well, where the ICU lives. The thing on top of the distributor is useless. Just disconnect it.
I don't know why it is burning up. The coil could be bad, shorted in some way, sending voltage through the resister, burning it up. There is no voltage coming from the distributor.
