I KNEW someone would ask this. When I was researching which shocks to get, I read everyone raving about the Bilsteins and ragging on the KYBs ("K"eep "Y"our "B"ilsteins) because they "come apart" or something like that. I bought some Bilsteins at almost FOUR TIMES the cost of any other shock, but then was told by my mechanic that unless I was going to be racing the car, they're not what I want. They're WAY too stiff. Then I read similar posts on this bulletin board about the Bilstein shocks being so stiff that someones' "back hurt". That's not what I'm looking for. I NEVER race my car off-road or on. I just want some decent shocks and lowering springs. The KYBs have a guarantee against faulty workmanship (I think a year warranty) and when I asked my Saab mechanic (who ONLY USES KYB Gas-A-Just shocks in all his cars and all the cars he works on...) about them coming apart, he said that it was utter nonsense. Then I weighed paying $80 a shock for Bilstein vs. $28 a shock for KYB Gas-A-Just. I returned the Bilsteins for the KYBs.
