...get head back from shop for '74 tii. go to friend's house with air tools (certainly a plus). pull head. all good. clean surfaces & bolt holes. all good. mount new head. properly torque down with electric gauged-wrench. CONNECT ALL COOLING HOSES & spin motor a couple times...all good.

note that valve cover won't fit on--head shop put oiler tube on backwards...gotta pull most head bolts to flip it....might as well not do it half-assed cuz you're drinking, hell, take them ALL out to properly retorque.....but wait....what's...that....sound....of...running....water......not all good. redid everything i had just done after emptying cylinders of coolant (turkey baster)....and buying new oil and oil filter, of course, natch.

might i have remembered to keep one bolt in if i wasn't buzzed? maybe. maybe not. it's the maybe part that bothers me. oh, well.
