Pedro,
My hood release on my '90 was so stiff I finally broke the cable. What I found out was the outer sheath of the cable delaminated and began to s t r e t c h out in length, which consumed the available travel of the lanyard and resulted in a non-functional hood release. I fashioned the classic coat hanger loop hood release (still inplace). Don't wait this long, as popping the hood with a broken cable is a real bugger, even using instructions in Bentley still took myself & son 1/2 hour to get popped.
Most interesting was I found that the hood latch unit bolted to the front core support was not well centered to the hood strike knob (whatever its called). I loosened the bolts to snug-loose, let the hood close most of the way, then floated the latch assembly to the true center & tightened it up, followed with grease lube of the moving internals in the latch. Now the hood pops open very easily. Soon I will reinstall the new cable I purchased to get the in-cabin release working. I did not grease any of the runways near the doors which others mentioned.
Good Luck,
DET
