Weak points: transmissions, head gaskets on 2.1 liter cars (normaly aspirated 1991? - 1993). All other problem areas are relatively minor.
The turbos are great and after 88 were water cooled, significantly extending their service life. Turbos are more complicated and have lots of associated plumbing which will leak etc. But, with proper preventative maintenance, the turbos are very reliable.
They are great cars. They are not, however, Hondas. They are much more fun to drive than Volvos, in either turbo or n/a form. Suggestion: look hard, and have the car you choose looked at. I'm sure others on this board will inform you of all of the problems associated with certain milage, such as ball joints at 120,000, etc.
Good luck, and hope you get one of these cars.
