I've finally traced the problem in my 87 unwilling-to-start saab to either the Hall controller or the disrtibuter. I have a Haynes manual that says to test the control unit by putting a voltameter between pins 3 and 6 and when open it should read 0.4v or less, and open 1.0v or more. When I hook mine up it reads 9v(hmmm). Also it looked as if some one had added a condenser between the + on the coil and the screw under the cap-clip on the distributer (the Hal systems don't use a condenser...why would someone do this?). I am also recieving no RPM movement. How can I test these units to see which one is the culprit? Why would it read such a high voltage? Will anyone answer my ramblings?
