Ari,
Thanks for the reply. I'm worried about this too. To answer your question, it appears to me that the elbow hose has a pinhole sized hole in it on the inside turn of the elbow. I observed the leak dripping from there several times last night (after nursing the car home, and again in the parking lot at Auto Zone).. in each case the engine temp was at about 50%...looked like the drip was from the middle of the hose as opposed to either clamped end.
When the first episode occured a couple weeks ago, I did a check of "vital signs". and noticed that the coolant tank level was a little below MIN.. I thought to myself "less coolant = hotter engine" and filled it back up to the MAX line. At that point I did the idle test, observed the fans operating normally, and went on about my merry way, having no problems until yesterday. I had noted several times since that the coolant tank level remained at MAX. However, I had not checked that level for the last couple days preceding yesterday's incident. (I was on the other side looking at the P/S level) Perhaps it had crept back down below that MIN line again, and this was enough to set off the overheating, which in turn as you suggest, promoted the leak and made the situation worse.
My plan of attack is to replace the hose and clamps, and see how the system behaves the next couple weeks, watching out for sings of oter issues. What to you think?
