I had mines done by a shop. I paid around $160. This was very fair. Yes, usually when the timing chain starts to go, it begins to rattle a little during start up, then after the car warms up, it remotely goes away. This is more times than none, the timing chain and not the timing chain guides. What i'd recommend is to replace the timing chain along with the tensioner. The jobs is rather tedious to do yourself, so find a shop that will charge you only 3 hours of labor (this is fair)and that is familiar with SAABS.
BTW, when i replaced both my timing chain and tensioner, my car is quite at start up, unlike before when I'd hear the chain rattling away!
