Yo Justin,
It is mind boggling how little information is out there about how the ABS actually works. I've got several theories but no-one seems to be able to answer specific questions, i.e. what exactly happens when I hit the brakes. Obviously, the main valve must open as well as the inlet valves, or are they open on start up? What actuates the valve, pressure applied through the brake pedal, etc. All this is pertinent to troubleshooting. Is ABS operation secret or something? Let's try to ferret it out as it would be advantageous to all us SAABsters. Later.
