I have a 92 900. The person I purchased it from said they had the AC charged last summer. I aksed my saab tech why no cold air. He said the low freon pressure was resulting in the compressor not even coming on. He said there was undoubtedly a leak and it would be a common problem for this age of the car, especially if this was the original hose. (Of course just about everything is a problem at this age on a car if it is what was original when the car was new) He said I could recharge it at $50 a lb for freon I think 2 1/2 lb was the amount he quoted and see what happens. But he said I might as well change the hose too while I was at it as 90% of the AC leaks he sees are in the hose, and I should have UV dye in the freon so the next leak would be easy to spot (he says not putting the dye in is silly since freon costs so much). A little more than twice as much than just putting in the freon, but he said I would save the trouble of putting in twice as much freon as was necessary and since I plan on keeping the car awhile (nice convertible) I would be eliminatting a future trouble spot. But it is a convertible and I have yet to encounter a 95-100 degreee humid summer day in stand still traffic in the NYC area. So I haven't had it done yet.... Has anyone replaced the hose themselves? How involved is it?
Carter 92 900 convert.

- No, Robert. There is a leak. Freon does NOT get "used up", ChipJ, Thu, 14 Jun 2001 22:19:38
- You won' t get too far with this until you fix the leak. >, ChipJ, Thu, 14 Jun 2001 16:52:05
