Rick,
I took on this project about 1 1/2 months ago, keep in mind the a/c i my 87t has not worked in ten years.I wanted to use all the parts in the car as possible.to begin I took out the compressor did a thru out flush with mineral oil by turning the clutch by hand. then I poured the rest of the quart of oil in to the system with out the receiver/drier flushed it with compressed air.
Putt back the compressor... replaced the receiver/drier(39.99$) With a new one... replaced the expansion valve(27.99$) with a new one... bought the 134r conversion kit and a set of gauges(39.99$/30.00$) from pep boys.
Then I pulled a vaccum in the high and low side by connecting a Y with rubber tubing... ran the car for 1 hour @ idle and finally I charged the system.
BTW..after putting 1 can of 134r I realised my condencer was leaking so I replaced it with a used one(20$)
It kools preaty good when moving, not as kool at idle.
good luck!
