You got screwed.........
The dampner is a common saab problem, cost of the part about 70 bucks, cost for a good saab mechanic to install it 140 bucks, he has a special tool to do this, anyone else without the tool is going to take twice as long. These things go out about every 70K and the reason they want to replace the seals is because everything is right there when they take the dampner off. Total cost 220 bucks.
Look for a good saab mechanic who has about 20 saabs outside his place of business, these are repeat customers. If he has a little of this and a little that keep looking.
