The long and the short of it. I have an 87 turbo convertible (man I love to drove this car), an 86, 8 valve non turbo that my son totaled that is rapidly deploying parts to my 85. I saw the other posts about some 900’s running hot and some not. I sometimes think they are as temperamental and unpredictable as a woman. Anyway, my 85 has always been running close to (with in 1/8 inch) of the dreaded “H” on the temperature gage.
After blowing the heater core, I flushed out the radiator (very good flow), replaced thermostat, checked out the radiator cooling fans (both come on just above half way on the gage), timed the distributor, bled the coolant and I am still running on the hot side. Primarily the gage tends to clime towards the hot zone when driving 65 to 75 mph.
The question – Is it possible that the water pump has lost its incentive to push the coolant thru the cooling system…….OR…….does every third Saab 900 produced runs on the hot side………OR………do Saabs have a gender identity problem?
