I had rad troubles too. First i tossed all AC and hooked the two fans together, so now both go on when sensor measures heat. Then i ran a wire from the fan connection to a tiny light up under the pass area, inside the car. now i know when the fans kick in, no guesswork. the light is very inconspicuous. Unfortunately, this was not enough. so i pulled the rad and replaced it with a larger model, $170. i left all the wiring as before and now i have no problems, even here in the south. mine an 85 too
