Brake lite switch replaced but still sticks on?

Hi
Last Saturday I replaced my brake light switch(boy what fun!). Today I came out from work to a dead battery. Needless to say I cursed a few times. When I got home and parked I saw that it was still lite. I pulled on the pedel and it went out. Prior the this I just hit the pedel hard and off it goes. I think it is a weak return spring, any other suggestions of what I might be missing?
