getting the clutch in

The Bentley manual very optimistically says to "assemble" the clutch disk, pressure plate, release bearing, and slave cylinder, and install in the flywheel housing, or words to that effect. What is the meaning of "assemble" here? It looks to me like you just hold the things together the best way you can, which in my case is not very well, and try to cram them in there before they slip around too much. Is that it, or is there a more scientific approach to this? I can't seem to get them all in at once.
Thanks in advance.
