very low idle after warm restart

have 89 900 base which developes a low idle(300-500rpm) almost to the point of stalling. this occurs only after restarting the car after it has reached normal operating temperature. if i don't turn off the car it will run fine. have looked here in the past for others with similar problem but haven't seen posts addressing this type of idle issue, most are related to high idle which is not the problem with this car. any thoughts would be appreciated. thanks.
