Dave ..."I DO"
Its a trade off for some shift quality to prolong the life of the weak points in the gear box that will destroy it. I speak of the pinion bearings and the bearings that ride between the cluster gear and the lay shaft. Both of these boys will make your transmission self destruct.

I have to laugh when I hear someone say ...I hear synthetic oil will make your seals leak... My reply is Hmmm I wonder whats worst, seeping seal or worn out motor?

Amsoil 20/50 series 2000 race oil is gods gift to the transmission world as far as I have seen. I have hand built over 100 of these gear boxes. Some many miles and years later had to have the reverse gears replaced. That means I had the ability to inspect the bearings at several given points. 27000 miles and 190,000 miles rings a bell on the 2 cases I remember. I was impressed. Ya see, to get at reverse you have to pull all the gears off the main shaft as reverse is the very last gear.

In another case I recall from several years ago. A long time customer with a 85 900S 8v "I didnt start servicing the car till it had a little over 110K on it" had the classic pinion bearing noise start in at around 187737 miles. This noise is indicative of total transmission failure within the next 30 days and I told her so. I had used Mobil1 15/50 in it sense 110K. When she dropped the 900 off I pulled it in and drained the trans to see how bad it was. Sure enough the magnetic drain plug had a BIG heap of metal on it. I filled it with Amsoil series 2000 and worked up a estimate for what it was going to take to fix the transmission. Well over 30,000 miles later she calls me and says "HEY" the noise hasn't changed. Should I be doing some service to this car? She gave the 900 to some young family member after I did a scaled down major service on it and I have not seen itfor a while as they live at the other side of the state.

On another note:
If your gear box has a bad syncro ...the Amsoil will make it shift worst.
I have had cases where in 93 and 94 900 of classic design scrape real bad on down shift from 3rd to 2nd and had to drain it and put back in the sorry 10/30 dino stuff. The scrape was still there but more bearable.
Its my opinion that if you use the Amsoil in a rebuilt gear box that has good gears and new syncros, you will never have a problem with them compared to the dino stuff. "10/30 engine oil"
