Cold weather idle problems

It was relatively cold here last night (-24C) and my trusty saab had some problems. I started my car in the morning to let it warm up and after about one minute the idle kicked down very, very low. When I returned the car had stopped running. I also noticed a gas smell - I figured that it was flooded. After a few minutes of cranking, I managed to get it started again. I have not had this problem before in cold weather and the car is well tuned and maintained. I suspect the AMM but I'd like to rule out other possibilities first. Any ideas or input??
