Most of that didn't make much sense to me. But here's what I do know. I have all the paper work from the previous owner (I decided to buy it yesterday). He was pretty anal about taking care of things (oil/fluids every 2500 miles); and had a good relationship with a saab mechanic, who he's introduced me to. This owner owned it for the last 5 years or so - and put probably 90K miles on it - primarily from commuting between SF and LA. So, that's another thing, its a California driven car. The body is pretty immaculate. The mechanic I brought it to (different from above), suggested replacing some belts and whatnot, having the power steering tuned, and replacing a headlight - he said all this is about $800 - and that it would cut down on the "noise" (not that its that noisy) and the steering would obviously improve. Question: aside from the headlight, I'm wondering if I really need to put that money into it - will not doing it jeopardize the longevity of the car - or is that likely only dependent on the transmission?
I'm far from mechanically handy, but would like to have the car last (as a second car) for a year or so. I plan to have regular check-ups/oil changes etc. What else can you recommend for best practice maintenance/servicing?
Appreciate any advice.
