Hi all,

Yesterday, comming home from testing out my new summer tires(Dunlop SP 901FM), my SPG died 10 ft from the driveway....I managed to coast and make it into the driveway, just off the street. I know...how lucky can I get!

I beging with the easy/obvious stuff....cap, wires, jiggle wiggle things around. Hmmm, I decide, must be the fuel pump, sounds like a classic failure symptom anyway. Whip out the Bently...spend 3 hours diagnosing/testing all the fuel system related components.....everything tests correctly...so I convince myself"it must be the fuel pump relay". So I dig it out from our convertible (good times getting that out) and replace it in my SPG....and still no start...crap.

Well, I better check if I have a spark (which I should have checked 3 hours earlier!)...and of course, there is no spark.

I remove the distributor cap again and notice some yellow looking plastic hanging out from behind the rotor. I pull the rotor out and have chuncks of yellow plastic all over....upon even closer inspection, the hall sensor is in pieces. Hmmm...I guess this must be the problem...duh

Any idea what would cause the plastic shield(under the rotor) and the hall sensor to snap into pieces?

During my test drive, I had driven "excess" speeds near the Salt Flats by the Salt Lake.

Is the hall sensor a dealer only item?

Thanks all,
Boris
