Replacing rear shocks and springs, for a novice

I'm considering asking a shop to replace the rear shocks and springs on my '85 SPG, which after 120,000 miles could probably do with it. The ride is a bit harsh and unforgiving and it bottoms out a bit with passengers in the back seat (it doesn't look as though its sagging at the rear though). I've got some recommendations for shocks from this BB, but I'm not sure about springs.
Can I replace the rear springs alone with some sort of generic spring that is the same height? Does any other work need to be done (e.g. alignment?).
TIA
